The game shows the writer Alan Wake trapped in an altered reality and can't get out. Alan finds himself surrounded by horrifying shadows and in order to escape them he must break the demonic cycle he has been imprisoned in by his doppelganger Mr. Scratch. In order to accomplish this Alan has to piece together pages of a scattered manuscript in order to rewrite and recreate the events of the particular episode.

The change in scenery of the game sets the perfect tone for the overall experience of the game; this also gives American Nightmare a unique touch. The clever part of the game for me was its actual structure. The story line takes about four to five hours to be completed, with three locations to be explored. Placing the presentation elements aside the best part of American Nightmare is the combat. Making it a more action and adventure based than predominately story drive version. Apart from a couple of new foes Alan also has some hot new weapons to deal with them. The handling of the combat is what makes it most impressive. The smooth character animation and tighter aims and the bathetic quality of gunplay make the game highly intriguing.

Along with the story mode the game also features a horde inspired mode called fight till dawn. This is an interesting addition to the game reviving the spirit of enthusiasm as it pushes you to defeat as many foes as possible to earn more and more points. And survive the given time to win. Due to the smoothness of the combat and the intensity f the encounters makes it a consistently spontaneous empowering and frightening experience which is truly impressive.

Alan Wakes American Nightmare provides the player with a unique gaming experience and is one of Remedy Entertainments best works. It is perfect game for anyone looking for a slight twist of horror blended in with action and adventure. Its curious tale keeps you involved from start to finish with its spooky atmosphere and engaging combat. The only set back being that the mode of combat doesn't change thorough out the gaming experience. The story has a fast pace that keeps you from getting bored. The combat is both slick and exciting along with being super polished.
